Lorde cancels tour for parents

Lorde has postponed her Australian tour dates, citing "ill health".

The Brit-winning Royals singer announced the six live shows will be rescheduled after her parents intervened and ordered her off the road on health grounds.

The 17-year-old tweeted: "I have had to postpone my Australian shows because of a nasty chest infection and general ill health. I am so so gutted to have to do this but my parents and my team stepped in telling me I needed a break after being non-stop since the Grammys in January.

"We will 100% be back for this tour (most likely in November) so don't worry about that."

The New Zealand singer continued: "I just need time to get back to full Gollum girl fitness before i go out playing shows again. I'm truly sorry if I let you down or if you feel inconvenienced by this and I hope you can understand."

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, recently performed at the Coachella music festival in California and joined Joan Jett, St Vincent and Kim Gordon in fronting Nirvana as part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Her Australian gigs were due to begin in Melbourne on April 24, before shows in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane. She is also expected to headline at Rock in Rio in Portugal in May and Chicago's music festival Lollapalooza in August.

Her UK spokeswoman said Lorde's upcoming concert at the O2 Academy in Brixton, London, on June 6 will not be affected by the cancellation of her dates Down Under.
