Juice Leskinen was a Finnish singer-songwriter, poet and writer, and one of the key figures in Finnish rock during the 1970s and 1980s and the rise of the so-called manserock scene. He began his musical career in Tampere with Coitus Int and later performed with his own bands, including Grand Slam. His songs are known for inventive Finnish wordplay, irony and sharp observations of everyday life, often concealing much darker subjects – loneliness, troubled relationships, alcohol, death and anxiety about the direction of human society, particularly in songs such as Syksyn sävel and Viidestoista yö. Beyond music, Leskinen wrote poetry, books, plays and newspaper columns, making him an important literary figure as well as a rock musician. |
