Rauli Badding Somerjoki (1947–1987) was a Finnish singer-songwriter from Somero whose music brought together rock and roll, tango and Finnish popular music. He grew up listening to old Finnish dance records at home while developing a fascination with Elvis Presley and early American rock ’n’ roll. Nationwide popularity came in 1973 with Fiilaten ja höyläten, which topped the Finnish charts and made Badding one of the country’s most sought-after performers. The following year he released Paratiisi, which became one of his best-known songs. After a quieter period in the late 1970s, Badding returned to the spotlight in the early 1980s through his collaboration with Agents. Songs such as Ikkunaprinsessa, Tähdet, tähdet and Laivat became enduring favorites in Finland. |
