Legião Urbana was a Brazilian rock band formed in Brasília in 1982 by Renato Russo and drummer Marcelo Bonfá; guitarist Dado Villa-Lobos joined the following year. Their self-titled debut arrived in 1985 and produced the band’s first major hits, including Será, Ainda É Cedo and Geração Coca-Cola. On later albums, Legião Urbana combined direct, melodic rock with songs about growing up, relationships and life in contemporary Brazil. Tempo Perdido, Eduardo e Mônica, Índios and the nine-minute Faroeste Caboclo became some of their best-known recordings. The band remained active until 1996 and ended after Russo’s death. |
