Gloria Gaynor was born on September 7, 1949, in Newark, New Jersey. In 1965 her first solo single was released, She'll Be Sorry/Let Me Go Baby. When the album Love Tracks was released in 1978 Gaynor became really popular. The single I Will Survive became an anthem of female emancipation and a #1 hit in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1980 the song won a Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording. |
