Del Shannon is an American rock and roll singer and musician. His real name is Charles Weedon Westover. Del Shannon became widely popular after he recorded his No. 1 hit ”Runaway“ (1961). The composition featured Musitron (a modified synthesizer) that was invented by the keyboardist Max Crook. In 1990, after having taken antidepressants, Del Shannon committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a .22 caliber rifle. |
