Gaita-Lurdes Essami performs under the name of Gaitana and is a popular singer from Kiev. She got her exotic name from her father who comes from the Congo. Gaitana was named “Official Friend of EURO 2012” (the European soccer championship hosted by Ukraine and Poland), and her compositions have become anthems for this football tournament. In 2012 she reached the national Eurovision knockout round with her song “Be my Guest” and, in spite of numerous accusations of plagiarism, she won and became the representative of Ukraine at Eurovision in Baku. |
