The Russian folk band Buranovskiye Babushki (Grannies from Buranovo) derives its name from the Udmurt village of Buranovo, where the band was formed, and from the respectable age of the singers, most of whom are in their seventies. Buranovskiye Babushki first came into the spotlight in 2008 with cover versions of popular Russian and international hit songs in the Udmurt language. In 2012 the band finished first in the national finals for the Eurovision Song Contest with their song Party for Everybody and was selected to represent Russia in Baku. |
