Nina Zilli is the stage name of the Italian singer Maria Chiara Fraschetta: her name is a combination of her mother’s surname and the name of famous jazz singer Nina Simone. Nina Zilli became famous in Italy and elsewhere after working with the band “Chiara & Gliscuri”. It was with them that in the early noughties she toured Europe (together with other bands). In 2009 she launched her solo career and a year later her first album came out, which quickly went gold. In 2012 Nina Zilli took part in the Italian Music Festival in San Remo and, even though she didn’t win, she was still chosen by the jury to represent Italy at Eurovision 2012.
