The Romanian band Mandinga was formed in 2002. Initially, the group included a popular Romanian singer, Elena Gheorghe. It was with her that the band first participated in the national selection for Eurovision in 2005, where they performed the song My Sun, finishing fourth in the contest. The song was later recorded for the album Soarele meu, which obtained gold album status in Romania. In 2012, Mandinga once again took part in the national finals of the international song contest and, as a winner, was chosen to represent Romania at Eurovision in Baku.
