James Bay acquired much of his musical and stage experience at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Brighton (a city on the southern shore of England). During his studies, he often participated in night concerts at local bars. One particular incident helped James catch the attention of a record company: the musician obtained the opportunity to sing at one of London’s restaurants and his performance was filmed and posted online. The video received a high rating from viewers, among which was a representative of Republic Records. Soon after, James signed a contract with the record label and recorded his debut album “Chaos and the Calm.” The album was later nominated for “Best Rock Album” at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
