Byrne: Jedward to do Ireland proud

Jedward could do Ireland proud in the Eurovision Song Contest, according to Mary Byrne.

The Dublin X Factor contestant reckons the vocally-challenged twins could even triumph over Blue, who are representing England.

"Jedward are one of the biggest novelty acts you will ever see. They are out there, they're having fun, they're in your face and I think they have a great chance," she said.

"I say this in the nicest way, since I have met them on numerous occasions and they are two really nice guys. They have something that appeals to young people. The Eurovision is at a stage now where it's novelty, and it's the novelty acts that will get places."

As for Blue - consisting of Duncan James, Lee Ryan, Simon Webbe and Antony Costa - she admitted: "I love Blue. I think they are a much more serious band, but I don't think the Eurovision is a serious competition any more.

"The likes of Jedward are perfect, because it's not taken as seriously as it used to be. I wish Blue all the best, I really do. They're a great band and I love them," she added.

Mary, whose debut album Mine And Yours is available now, isn't a huge fan of the Eurovision Song Contest.

"I used to love Eurovision years and years ago, in the old days. I don't watch it now at all," she said.
