Morgan apologises for Sony tweets

Huey Morgan has vowed to "tweet no more" after ranting about missing out at the Sony Radio Academy Awards.

The Fun Lovin' Criminals star and BBC Radio 6 Music presenter was nominated for music radio personality of the year at the glittering bash - often viewed as the radio industry's equivalent of the Oscars - but lost out to Radio 2's Chris Evans, with 6 Music's Lauren Laverne coming second in the category.

Huey took to Twitter to vent his disappointment, and also slated Fearne Cotton, who picked up the gong for best music programme.

"They ain't gonna let some dude from NYC win this s***. Fern (sic), Lauren, Chris. Yeah right, that's cool? Suckers they come a dime a dozen," he reportedly tweeted.

But a repentant Huey later told followers: "I am sorry for my comments last night. If I offended anyone, I apologise. I will tweet no more. Goodbye and thank you for your reality check."

Fearne, who picked up her trophy in a metallic dress "so tight I can't breathe", admitted she was in shock at her prize. She tweeted: "Still cant believe I won a Sony. Not sinking in. Thank you to all my lovely listeners and to all at radio1!"

Golden oldies Beryl Renwick, 86, and Betty Smith, 90, scooped the best entertainment programme prize for their weekly show on BBC Radio Humberside.

Football pundits Andy Gray and Richard Keys also scored a top award, taking home best sports programme for their Talksport show a year after they disappeared from TV screens in disgrace after a sexism furore.

6 Music, which had been earmarked for oblivion by corporation bosses, was named UK station of the year.

Performers at the event included Gary Barlow and Jessie J.
