Donna Summer hits re-enter charts

Donna Summer classics have re-entered the charts after fans flocked to buy the disco star's records following her death.

Summer, best known for hits such as I Feel Love and Love To Love You Baby, was said to have lost her fight against lung cancer on Thursday, at the age of 63.

Her death sparked an outpouring of grief in the music world and a surge in sales of some of her most popular tracks.

Five of these appeared in this week's Top 200, the Official Charts Company said. I Feel Love, one of the singer's most celebrated records, re-entered at number 45.

It was followed by Hot Stuff (111), This Time I Know It's For Real (114), Love To Love You Baby (138) and State Of Independence (143).

Elsewhere in the singles charts, Rita Ora held on to the top spot with her track R.I.P featuring Tinie Tempah.

Rock band Keane - who shot straight to the top of the album charts last week - also clung on at number one with Strangeland. The rockers, from East Sussex, successfully held off Jack Black's Tenacious D which debuted at number two.

Summer, who learned to sing in church, fronted a series of bands during her career.

Working as a session singer brought her into contact with producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, and together they established her as one of the biggest acts of the 1970s.

Love To Love You Baby made her a star in the United States but she found even greater success with I Feel Love. The song proved to be hugely influential and inspired a generation of electronic musicians.
