Will.i.am: I'm not a great singer

Will.i.am has confessed he is still working on his singing and uses autotune on his tracks.

The Black Eyed Peas frontman and star of The Voice - who made a surprise appearance carrying the Olympic torch through Somerset earlier this week - also brushed off claims the BBC One talent show was in decline, insisting: "You can't always believe what you read."

He told Alan Carr on Chatty Man show on Channel 4, to be screened tonight (Friday): "A lot of the time I am in the studio by myself and no one works as much as I do. So the computer allows me to make music singing myself and not wait around for singers to come and sing it.

"It's a rare combination to have someone who can write songs and sing well. The computer allows me to execute my ideas at the speed I think them. So that's why I lean to autotune. It's just an effect. But I am working on, you know, my singing abilities."

When asked about The Voice's fall in ratings, Will said: "I checked Wikipedia once and it said I was one million years old, so you can't always believe what you read."

Sunday night's The Voice results show will feature guest performances from Cheryl Cole and Kylie Minogue.
