‘Unbelievable!' Roger Taylor floored by new Queen milestone ‘All praise the golden goose!'

It's been 30 years since Freddie Mercury's untimely death and a quarter of a century since John Deacon retired from the music industry. Nevertheless, Brian May and Roger Taylor have kept the legacy of Queen alive and well with the help of Paul Rodgers and new frontman Adam Lambert. And now the band's drummer has announced a sensational milestone to conclude their 50th anniversary year.

Fans will know Queen's Greatest Hits, which was released 41 years ago, as the UK's best-selling album of all time having amassed over 978 weeks in the charts.

It turns out that the incredibly popular record concluded 2021 as the fifth biggest selling of the year on the Official Charts Company roundup chart.

Roger said in a statement: "Unbelievable, all praise the golden goose that just keeps giving!"

The news follows a special collector's edition release of the Greatest Hits CD last July, which saw the album peak at No 2 in the UK Albums Chart.

Queen's Greatest Hits was first released in 1981 and is the first and only album to have sold over 6 million copies in the UK.

Total sales since its debut stand at 6,912,586 at the time of writing, meaning it surely won't be long before Brian and Roger are welcoming news of over 7 million copies sold.

Having been certified 23x platinum, the record's global sales are in excess of 25 million.

The Official Charts Company crowed it: "Britain most popular album of the past 60 years, one in four British households already own a copy of the album."
