Adele album heading back to the top

Adele is on course to head back to the top of the album charts again this week, according to midweek sales figures.

The record-breaking Someone Like You star's album, 21, is set to be number one according to the Official Charts Company.

That would give the album, the singer's second, 19 non-consecutive weeks at number one - the most since Simon and Garfunkel's 1970 release Bridge Over Troubled Water.

The album lost out on last year's Mercury Prize to PJ Harvey's Let England Shake but sold 3.7 million copies in 2011 and helped Adele to six Grammy nominations.

Her success in 2011 also saw her become the first woman to have two singles and two albums in the UK top five at the same time, but it was overshadowed by throat problems which threatened to wreck her voice forever.

The singer had an operation on her throat after she was forced to cancel a string of shows in the UK when she was diagnosed with a vocal cord haemorrhage.

She had complained of her voice just "switching off" when she was forced to call off a US tour.
