Bruno Mars dominates digital charts

Bruno Mars has dominated the digital download charts racking up the top two biggest selling singles of the year.

His number one, Just The Way You Are, sold 12.5 million copies around the world in 2011.

The singer's hit, Grenade, was the second biggest digital seller with 10.2 digital copies sold.

The next biggest seller was LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem which sold 9.7 million, while Adele's Rolling In The Deep sold 8.2 million.

Mars also had another single in the top 10 with The Lazy Song which sold 6.5 million copies.

The sales figures were released in the annual digital musical report published by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

It found music fans are downloading more digital music than ever before with single track downloads up by 11 per cent and album downloads up by 24 per cent.

A total of 3.6 billion downloads were paid for around the world last year and the number of people paying to subscribe to a digital music service climbed by 65% to 13.4 million, according to the IFPI.

Record companies pulled in 5.2 billion US dollars (£3.3 billion) from digital sales but the report found piracy remains a problem with more than one in four (28 per cent) internet users regularly accessing illegal services.
