Jepsen tops first streaming chart

Carly Rae Jepsen has topped the first ever streaming chart with her hit Call Me Maybe.

The track - which has previously been at number one in the singles chart for four weeks - headed the countdown for online listening.

The new weekly list has been put together by the Official Charts Company to take into account new methods of music consumption.

Canadian Carly was just ahead of Fun featuring Janelle Monae's We Are Young in the list published on the chart firm's website.

Somebody That I Used To Know, by Gotye featuring Kimbra, came in third, followed by Alex Clare's Too Close.

The new streaming chart is based on plays from audio services such as Spotify, Deezer, We7, and Napster.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "The launch of this chart is a landmark moment for the UK music industry - and it is appropriate that such a signature spring smash can claim this historic first."

Last week, Ed Sheeran emerged as the most streamed artist of the year when chart bosses analysed online listening.
