NewsOctober, 27 Hilary Duff jokes about shawls and early 2000s style
Hilary Duff is in no rush to see shawls return to fashion. In a new interview with Paper magazine, published on Monday, the singer and actress was asked what she makes of fans who recreate her early 2000s Metamorphosis looks – butterfly clips included – at her The Lucky Me Tour shows. Her answer came with a laugh: she joked that she has "PTSD" about how many shawls she wore, and said she will need to track down a shawl that doesn't bring back memories of the old ones. Low-rise jeans are a different story. Duff said she is "super glad" they are popular again, though she has adjusted her approach. Skin-tight pairs are no longer for her, but a baggy low-rise jean is something she is "super into." She also likes that today's fashion choices don't always have to make sense, describing the appeal as an air of not caring and being cool. Seeing young people dressed that way makes her happy, she added, because it takes her back – but she has no wish to be 17 again, or even 25. Looking back on her early days as a pop star, Duff admitted that some of her stage and personal outfits were a "little too mismatched." These days her go-to baggy jeans have made their way into her wardrobe for her comeback tour. She recalled the moment baggy styles returned and the old rule of pairing a tight top with a baggy bottom, or the reverse. Now, she laughed, it's baggy on baggy. Baggy jeans and a baggy T-shirt became a big part of her show, she explained, because she wanted to feel the way she does at home after a long day – with nothing going into any crevice. The Come Clean hitmaker is currently on the road in Australia with The Lucky Me Tour. After a break, she will be back on stage in Vancouver, Canada, on 22 January. Her new festive EP, Holiday Things, is out now.
