NewsOctober, 25 Drake Marks 40th Birthday With Backstreet Boys
Drake turned 40 with a party for more than 400 guests, and the night came with a surprise appearance by the Backstreet Boys. The celebration took place on Friday at the Casa Cipriani hotel in New York City. The group took the stage for a set, and Drake later joined them to perform their 1999 hit I Want It That Way. Addressing the room, the five-time Grammy winner said many of those present were people he feels a strong connection with because of how hard they work. He noted that even though it was a Friday, everyone had made time for themselves. He went on to say the evening was not about a tour, an album release or any of the videos they had shot. For him, it came down to being alive and staying alive. The New York party wrapped up several days of festivities that had started in his hometown of Toronto. Earlier in the week, he met up with friends at the CN Tower, where a collage of photos and memories was waiting for him as a surprise. From there, the singer flew to New York on Air Drake, his customised Boeing 767, travelling with his mother and members of his entourage. He was seen dining at the SoHo restaurant Mamo on Thursday night. There was more good news the same day: his newest album, Iceman, reached platinum status on Friday, only five months after it came out in May.
