Roxy Music share lost Pyjamarama demo

Roxy Music have shared a demo of their 1973 single Pyjamarama that had never been heard before. The sparse recording, which stayed unheard for more than five decades, shows frontman Bryan Ferry working out the song on an acoustic guitar in a cottage in Derbyshire. It was the first time Ferry had written on a guitar, and the track pairs open-tuned chord progressions with improvised, scat-sung topline vocals.

There is more than audio on offer: fans can also watch the band's lost March 1973 performance of Pyjamarama on Top of the Pops. The footage had been wiped from the official BBC archives and was recently found in a private collection belonging to mobile disco DJ Roger Hill.

The demo arrives as a taste of the expanded Super Deluxe Edition of the band's second album, For Your Pleasure, due on 6 November 2026 via UMR/Island EMI. First released in March 1973, the record fixed the line-up of Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Brian Eno and Paul Thompson as pioneering figures of English art rock. It was also the last studio album to carry Eno's synth work.

The 3CD+DVD Super Deluxe Edition digs deep into the band's creative process at a key moment. It gathers early songwriting sketches, AIR Studios outtakes, BBC Peel Sessions and instrumentals, plus a DVD of rare television appearances from 1972 and 1973, among them their Montreux and Old Grey Whistle Test performances. A 116-page hardback book with unpublished archival photography and exclusive liner notes rounds out the package.

For Your Pleasure will come in several formats: a 2LP set, 2CD, digital, Dolby ATMOS, Blu-Ray and a Direct-to-Consumer exclusive Blue Pearl vinyl pressing. Fifty-three years after it first appeared, the album still stands as a high-water mark for British popular music, mixing avant-garde invention with pop hooks that are hard to resist. Pre-orders for all physical and digital formats are open now.
