NewsOctober, 1 Ivors Academy Honours 2026: Stormzy and James Blake
The Ivors Academy handed out honours to seven music creators and industry figures at its 2026 ceremony, held at the InterContinental London Park Lane. The event put the spotlight on people whose advocacy, innovation and leadership are helping build a fairer and more inclusive future for songwriters and composers around the world. Rapper and philanthropist Stormzy picked up an Honour presented by Warner Chappell Music UK MD Shani Gonzales, in recognition of his cultural impact and his efforts to open up educational and career paths for underrepresented communities. Singer-songwriter and producer James Blake was recognised by Ivors Academy CEO Lord Neri and Chair Tom Gray for his strong advocacy on creator remuneration, streaming fairness and ownership rights. Glastonbury Festival co-organiser Emily Eavis received her award from Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, honouring her work in giving emerging artists a place on global stages. Broadcaster and DJ Annie Macmanus was presented with her trophy by former co-host Nick Grimshaw, celebrating her 17-year legacy at BBC Radio 1 and her continued efforts through Annie Mac Presents to champion new musical talent. Acclaimed songwriter and producer MNEK was honoured by frequent collaborator Becky Hill for his creative catalogue and for supporting LGBTQIA+ creators through his annual Proud Sound writing camp. Among the executives, retiring IMRO CEO Victor Finn was recognised for expanding Irish creators' rights over nearly two decades, while Sentric Music CEO Chris Meehan was honoured for widening indie publisher access and improving royalty transparency for songwriters. The evening included an exclusive performance from 19-year-old rising singer-songwriter Mulaa Joans, who performed her hit single Birthday Makeup. The seven new honourees join legendary artist Elton John, who received an Ivors Academy Honour earlier this year and became the Academy's first-ever President. Carrying on the legacy of the Gold Badge Awards, first established in 1974, the ceremony shines a light on the people working behind the scenes to protect, nurture and champion human creativity.
