NewsOctober, 19 Miley Cyrus answers Hollywood Bowl critics
Miley Cyrus has hit back at online commentary about her debut performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Speaking from the stage during her second night at the Los Angeles venue on Sunday, the singer took aim at what she described as clickbait videos suggesting she had not given Friday's show her all because she didn't sing every word. She told the crowd she had never heard it said that she doesn't put her heart into something, and said she wouldn't entertain the claims made by someone seeking attention with commentary on her Friday performance. The 33-year-old noted that before Friday she had not played a full concert in four years, and admitted that standing on stage and doing the show was hard for her. It doesn't come as naturally as it once did, she explained, because people change and grow, and they work out what stays with them and what still fits. She stressed that these one-off shows mean more to her than an experiment. Calling the night an experience, she said the audience makes it possible, and that this is the only way she gets to test her own boundaries and limits. The Bass Persuades artist, who has spoken openly about not enjoying touring, also shared that she was going to run away before the opening song Orbit, but would never leave the audience sitting there without a full show. She added that she can take a lot, but she will not stand for any question about where her heart is when she is on stage, and made clear she was fully present with the crowd. Later, while performing Bass Persuades, she returned to the criticism with a quip that she had forgotten she was supposed to sing every word. The two Hollywood Bowl dates supported her 10th studio album, Bass Persuades, which came out last month. Her single Flowers was referenced in the online commentary she addressed.
