NewsOctober, 18 Eminem defends Kid Rock collaboration
Eminem has spoken out in defence of his guest verse on Kid Rock's latest record, a faith-based album. The rapper made clear that a friendship stretching back decades counts for more than the two men's political differences. Kid Rock brought out the new LP, Halfway 2 Jesus, on Friday. Eminem, who also hails from Detroit, features on the song Heal My Faith. The pairing raised eyebrows among some of Eminem's followers. They were surprised that an artist who has taken aim at Trump on tracks such as Campaign Speech would team up with Kid Rock, among the music world's most vocal Trump backers. Hours after the album landed, Eminem turned to social media to explain the collaboration. "Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us," he wrote. Kid Rock went into more detail about how the track came together in an interview with Billboard. "We've been friends for 40 years. I really didn't want to drag him into my political world," he said. The two old friends do touch on politics now and then, he added, though only "a little bit, not a tonne". "There's a lot of stuff we agree on, and we can have a laugh about what we don't. That's why I asked him to write a verse for me," he explained.
