NewsOctober, 18 Harry Styles Debuts Tribute Song for Liam Payne in NYC
Harry Styles used a New York stage to remember his late bandmate Liam Payne, performing an acoustic song that has not been released. The moment came at Madison Square Garden, where Styles is in the middle of a residency on his Together, Together tour. The show was a sell-out and fell on the second anniversary of Payne's death. Payne was 31 when he fell from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Speaking to the full house in a clip shared by Billboard, Styles said: "Two years ago today, I lost one of those friends. I'm sure a lot of you have been through similar things. I hope you haven't. But really, it's just about looking after each other." He went on to say that many people had touched his life in special ways and that he would not be there without them. He then asked the audience if he could play a song he had written for his friend about two years earlier. Styles introduced it as What Is Enough before easing into the melodic track, which included the lines: "I'm not wise enough/But I wrote you a letter just to burn it up/And watch it rise like you're in the sky." Styles and Payne were both original members of One Direction, from the group's formation in 2010 until it came to an end in 2015.
