Fun hit top spot with We Are Young

American indie pop band Fun have climbed to the top of the singles chart with their track We Are Young featuring Janelle Monae.

The song, first released in September last year, launched the band into mainstream success after it was covered by US musical drama Glee and used by Chevrolet for an advert during February's Super Bowl.

The highest new entry of the week was Chasing The Sun by boy band The Wanted, which went straight in at number two, according to The Official UK Charts Company.

Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen held on to third spot with her catchy tune Call Me Maybe, while last week's number one song R.I.P. by Rita Ora featuring Tinie Tempah fell to fourth place.

Alex Clare's track Too Close dropped one spot to five, while Rihanna held on to number six with Where Have You Been from her sixth studio album Talk That Talk.

Emeli Sande, who won the critics' choice prize at this year's Brit Awards, rose two places to reach the summit of the albums chart with Our Version Of Events.

Driving Towards The Daylight, the new entry by blues singer Joe Bonamassa, slotted in at two, while Adele's 21 - in its 70th week in the charts - climbed one place to three.

Rocker John Mayer's album Born And Raised was a new entry at four, while the Bee Gees' Number Ones record rose 29 places to number five following the death of Robin Gibb.

Last week's number one Strangeland by Keane fell to six.
