Thrifty number hits charts summit

An ode to the delights of buying second hand clothes has climbed to the top of the singles chart.

Macklemore And Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz completed their ascent to the number one spot with Thrift Shop, which had jumped 22 places to number two last week.

The track has already topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand and the US.

It displaced Dutch dance duo Bingo Players, whose Get Up (Rattle), featuring Far East Movement, had been number one for the past two weeks. That tune slipped to number three.

White Noise by British duo Disclosure, featuring AlunaGeorge, rose 26 places to number two, while Clown by Emeli Sande climbed from eight to four and reunited US pop-punk outfit Fall Out Boy entered the chart at number five with My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up).

In the album chart, former number one The Motion Picture Cast Recording of Les Miserables returned to the top, displacing Opposites by Biffy Clyro, which fell to number three.

English singer-songwriter Jake Bugg's eponymous album rose from six to two, while Our Version Of Events by Emeli Sande stayed at number four and Rumours by Fleetwood Mac fell from three to five.

Anna by English indie rockers the Courteeners went in at number six and Pedestrian Verse by Scottish band Frightened Rabbit at number nine.

Pianist Richard Clayderman has scored his highest chart hit for 30 years with his comeback album making number 13 in the chart. The French musician - one of the world's biggest-selling recording artists - has released his first collection of new tracks for more than a decade last week, called Romantique.
