U2 fundraise and win Golden Globe

U2 have had a busy weekend in Hollywood, performing at a fundraising dinner and collecting a Golden Globe for their work on Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

The band entertained guests at a charity auction and dinner in aid of the Haiti earthquake victims organised by Sean Penn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In a surprise three-song set at the end of the evening, the first time they have played on stage together in four years, Bono quipped: "It's been a while since we played a hotel lounge. I think the last time was a bar mitzvah."

Meanwhile, U2 also picked up the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for their track Ordinary Love, which they composed for the film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

Speaking at the ceremony, guitarist The Edge said: "We have been working for President Mandela since the 70s... since we were teenagers when we did our very first concert against apartheid. It's taken us 35 years to write this song."

Bono added of Nelson Mandela: "This man turned our lives upside down - right side up. He refused to hate because he thought love would do a better job."
