Magic! tops the UK singles chart

Newlywed Cheryl Cole has been knocked off the top of the singles chart by a Canadian reggae fusion band.

Magic! have claimed their first number one with debut single Rude, pushing the X Factor judge's Crazy Stupid Love down to number two.

Rude first entered the chart four weeks ago based solely on audio streams, the Official Charts Company said.

Upon its official release last week, it jumped 48 places to the number two spot.

It is not only the most purchased track of the week, but with 1.4 million audio streams notched up this week too, it claims the highest streaming proportion for a number one single since streaming began counting towards the Official Singles Chart last month.

Some 16% of Rude's overall chart sales tally has been contributed from fans listening via audio streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and O2 Tracks.

Meanwhile Ed Sheeran has once again fought off the competition, spending a sixth week at number one in the albums chart with X.

Over the last seven days, X has outsold its closest rival once again, with Dolly Parton's Blue Smoke - The Best Of remaining in second place, Eric Clapton & Friends are new in at number three with The Breeze, a tribute to late US singer/songwriter JJ Cale, featuring collaborations with a host of famous musicians including Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, and John Mayer, among others.

Rounding out today's Official Albums Chart top five is Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour, which slides one place to number four and George Ezra's Wanted On Voyage, down one place to number five.

Back to the singles chart, dance vocalist and producer ZHU scored his first UK Top 40 with Faded at number three, while former X Factor star Ella Henderson spends an eighth week in the top five with debut single Ghost at number four.

Britain's Got Talent finalists Bars and Melody -13-year-old Leondre Devries and 15-year-old Charlie Lenehan - scored their first UK Top 40 hit with Hopeful, which debuts at number five today, and is Britain's biggest selling physical single this week.
