Elton John warns Ed Sheeran his success won't last

Elton John has warned fellow British popstar Ed Sheeran that his incredible success won't last forever.

Since his 2011 debut + (plus), Ed has emerged as the dominant force in British pop, to the extent that at one point last year (17) he had nine of the top 10 songs in the the U.K. singles chart.

However, Elton, 71, admitted he has personally warned the Thinking Out Loud singer that he won't be on top forever - and has to prepare himself for an inevitable fall in popularity.

"You have a heyday and you have a rest, and the heyday can never be replaced," he told Brit musician George Ezra on his Apple Music podcast. "After that I had the common sense to know I'm not going to have a number one every time straight away. I knew someone else would take over. It's cyclical.

"Ed will go through that and I've talked to him about it. I've said, 'There'll come a time where this won't happen every time and you have to accept that'."
