NewsSeptember, 29 Kylie Minogue tipped to perform at Glastonbury 2019Kylie Minogue is set to perform at Glastonbury in 2019, a source close to the festival has claimed. The Australian singer will play the coveted Sunday afternoon "Legends" slot, according to an anonymous "insider" quoted by The Sun. Minogue, 50, was booked for the festival in 2005, but was replaced by dance duo Basement Jaxx when she was forced to cancel her appearance after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Although Minogue made a brief onstage appearance during Scissor Sisters' 2010 set, she has never given a full performance at the festival. “Kylie had to pull out of Glastonbury in 2005 just a month before she was due to appear so this performance will be a very emotional and poignant moment for her," the source said. “She jumped at the opportunity to appear next year and it is the perfect way to celebrate her career.” In previous years, the "legends" slot has featured major artists including Tom Jones, Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie. Earlier this year, festival organiser Emily Eavis hinted about who would playing the slot in 2019. “I’ll give you a clue: it’s a female," Eavis said. "She is not British, but I can’t give you any more clues because it will get me into trouble.” Since topping the Australian charts with her 1987 debut single Locomotion, the former Neighbours actress has become one of the most popular recording artists of her generation, selling more than 70 million records worldwide. This July, she was asked by the Press Association whether she would accept an invitation to headline Glastonbury. "When I was supposed to do it [in 2005] I think I would have been the first solo female to headline in however many years it was, so I was really proud of that at that time," she said. "Obviously it didn't happen. So yes, it would be amazing and very emotional to be standing there and doing what I didn't get to do all those years ago, for sure."
