Midge Ure pays tribute to late Ultravox bandmate Chris Cross

Midge Ure had paid tribute to his former Ultravox bandmate Chris Cross following his death.

The singer paid tribute to the bassist, whose real name was Chris Allen, in a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday night.

"Chris Allen. We worked together, we played together, made music and directed videos together. We were instant friends as well as Ultravox comrades," he wrote alongside a throwback photo of the duo on a ski slope.

"Even after years apart we managed to pick up where we left off like the years in between never existed. You were the glue that held the band together. You were the logic in the madness and the madness in our lives. It was great to know and grow with you. You are loved and missed old friend."

According to reports, Cross died on 25 March aged 71. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Cross formed the British new wave band, originally known as Tiger Lily, in 1974 and released three albums with founding frontman John Foxx before he left and was replaced by Ure.

Ure ushered in a commercially successful era for the band, particularly with their 1980 album Vienna and the single of the same name, which remains their most famous song.

After several more albums, the group disbanded in 1987. However, Cross and Ure later reunited with their bandmates Billy Currie and Warren Cann for the 2012 album Brilliant and a series of live shows between 2009 and 2013.

Currie also paid tribute on Facebook, writing, "Very sad to hear about Chris. We had some amazing times together. Laughing mostly."
