NewsMay, 3 Jonathan Groff 'cannot stop crying' over latest Tony Award nominationJonathan Groff has admitted that he "cannot stop crying" over his most recent Tony Award nomination. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday, the Broadway actor confessed that the nomination made him emotional. It was announced earlier this week that Jonathan had been nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, directed by Maria Friedman. During the interview, host Seth noted that this is the third time Jonathan has been nominated for a Tony Award, but the actor said that the honour doesn't get old. "We had our Tony nominee press day today and I cannot stop crying," Jonathan confessed. "I am a mess." Jonathan noted that the Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along scored seven nominations this year, including nods for his co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez. "I cried so much during these interviews today and then I went into the bathroom at the junket, and I was peeing and I started crying again, just to myself," the Glee star told the talk show host. "I think there's something about the release of urination." The actor then revealed that Variety's Gordon Cox walked in while he was crying in the bathroom. "He came in behind me and I was like 'Oh my god, now there's someone else here, and they're hearing my cry,'" he said. "And I was washing my hands and then he was like, 'Are you okay?'" Jonathan was previously nominated for his performances in Spring Awakening in 2007 and Hamilton in 2016, but went home empty-handed both times.
