Green Day forced to pause Detroit concert over security scare

Green Day were forced to halt their concert in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday over a "potential safety issue".

The American Idiot rockers, fronted by Billie Joe Armstrong, were in the middle of performing their song Longview at Comerica Park when they ran off stage without warning.

The audience was not given any explanation for the unexpected break, but a message appeared on the stadium's screens which read, "Show Pause. Please standby for details."

Armstrong and his bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool returned to the stage 10 minutes later but didn't address their sudden departure. According to Billboard, the frontman simply said, "How you doing? We're gonna pick up where we left off," before resuming the song.

However, the musician seemingly alluded to the situation after a rendition of Welcome to Paradise as he told the crowd, "Ain't no motherf**ker that's gonna stop us. I'll tell you that."

The band took to social media after the show to explain that there was a security problem.

"Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight, stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD (Detroit Police Department) quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding," they wrote.

While the band did not go into detail, sources told Billboard that security had spotted an unauthorised drone hovering within sight of the stage and stopped the show as a precaution.

Green Day are next scheduled to perform at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado on Saturday 7 September as part of their Saviors Tour.
