Dua Lipa wins Mental Health Champion of the Year Award

Dua Lipa has shared her gratitude after winning a Mental Health Champion of the Year Award.

The 29-year-old singer was recognised by the prominent American LGBTQ+ charity, The Trevor Project.

The charity grants the Mental Health Champion award to "influential public figures who use their platform to advocate for mental health awareness and issues impacting LGBTQ+ young people."

The LGBTQ+ ally, who is straight, won praise from the charity after she highlighted their work on NBC's Today program and after she shared a link to their crisis hotline after the 2024 US election result earlier this month.

The New Rules singer said in a statement on Tuesday, per The Hollywood Reporter, "The Trevor Project is an organization that is near and dear to my heart, and I am humbled to play a part in shining a light on mental health awareness for LGBTQ+ young people.

"You are a beautiful, unstoppable community, and I am constantly in awe of the courage and strength you demonstrate when you stand proudly in your truth."

She added, "To every young person out there: Know that you are loved, you are not alone and The Trevor Project is a wonderful organization that is always there for you.

"The LGBTQ+ community have been my biggest champions since the start of my career, and I will continue to fight to make sure your voices are heard, your rights are protected and you are treated with respect for being just the way you are."
