Ringo Starr's first home could go
Ringo Starr's birthplace could be demolished - after plans to bulldoze the house were given the go-ahead.
The ex-Beatles' drummer was born and lived in the property, 9 Madryn Street, until he was three months old.
But the demolition has been unanimously agreed by Liverpool City Council's planning committee.
A total of 445 pre-1919 terraced houses in Dingle's Welsh Streets neighbourhood will be torn down as part of a scheme to regenerate the area.
A nearby home, 10 Admiral Grove, where Ringo lived for 20 years, will remain standing.
English Heritage has twice declined an application to list 9 Madryn Street, stating it has no associations with the success of the Beatles and is not architecturally or historically significant enough.
Liverpool City Council said it would be "impractical" to retain the property on its own as it is in the centre of a terrace block but the council is working with National Museums Liverpool on a project to retain parts of the house.
The childhood homes of John Lennon - Mendips, in Menlove Avenue - and Sir Paul McCartney - in Forthlin Road - are popular tourist attractions run by the National Trust.
George Harrison's Arnold Grove childhood home remains a private house while the Cavern Club was demolished in the 1970s.
The council will now refer its decision to the Secretary of State.
