Madonna signs Universal albums deal

Pop superstar Madonna has signed a new record deal with music giant Universal which could see her releasing albums up to the age of around 60.

The singer, now 53, is to release a new album next year - her first since 2008's Hard Candy.

The next release will be her first album to not come out on a Warner Brothers label, her musical home for nearly 30 years.

Madonna has signed a three-album deal with Universal's Interscope Records.

The deal was announced today as "one component of a very broad plan developed by long time manager Guy Oseary and Live Nation Entertainment".

She has released only three albums in the last eight years, so if her musical work rate continues at the same pace, she could be near her 60th by the time the deal is complete.

Work on the new album is already complete and the first single Gimme All Your Luvin will come out in late January shortly before she appears at the Superbowl in February.

Her new film W.E. - which she has directed - comes out around the same time.

Madonna - who has sold more than 300 million albums - signed a deal with promoter Live Nation which includes new albums, tours, merchandise, DVDs and TV and film projects.

Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope, said: "Very rarely does an opportunity like this come around." Manager Oseary said: "We anticipate a very bright future at our new home."
