Singing star Groban lands film role

Josh Groban is set to play a barista with dreams of becoming a star in the new comedy Coffee Town.

The US singer, who showed off his acting skills with cameos in Glee and The Office, will join up-and-coming stars Glenn Howerton, Steve Little and Ben Schwartz in the low-budget film, from the makers of website CollegeHumor, the 24 Frames blog reports.

The film will focus on Will, a website manager (played by Glenn), and his friends (Steve and Ben) who regularly call over to see him.

Musician Josh will send up his own image, playing a waiter who wants to be a singer but is hindered by a lack of talent.

The makers are said to have bought a script from former Arrested Development writer-producer Brad Copeland and hired him to direct it. Shooting is expected to begin in February in Los Angeles.

CollegeHumor co-founder Ricky Van Veen said the goal with Coffee Town was to take advantage of the firm's in-house talent.

He told the blog: "We think we can leverage what we've done into longer things, including features and TV shows."
