Keane claim fifth album top spot

Rock band Keane have shot straight to the top of the album charts with their new record Strangeland, the Official Charts Company has said.

It is the band's fifth consecutive number one album - a record run only ever surpassed by The Beatles.

The East Sussex rockers' first three albums - Hopes And Fears, Under The Iron Sea and Perfect Symmetry - and their 2010 EP, Night Train, have all debuted at the top of the album chart.

Their latest release outsold its nearest competitor Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events by two copies to one.

But The Beatles still hold the record with seven consecutive Number ones, from 1963 album Please Please Me, through to Revolver in 1966.

Meanwhile in the singles chart, Rita Ora claimed her second number one of the year with her track R.I.P featuring Tinie Tempah.

The track, written by rapper Drake and produced by Chase and Status, was released earlier this week and has already sold more than 100,000 copies.

The 21-year-old singer, who was signed by Jay Z for his label Roc Nation, will be touring with DJ Fresh on his May UK tour.

Last week's chart topper Tulisa was pushed down into second place with her single Young.

The number three spot was taken by Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe, with Alex Clare's Too Close and Fun and Janelle Monae's We Are Young took positions four and five respectively.
