Morrissey has a cat on his mind

How soon is meow? Singer Morrissey has posed with a cat on his head for an animal charity's campaign.

The former Smiths frontman has given his support to People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (Peta) to encourage pet owners to neuter their cats.

Morrissey has been a long-time animal rights campaigner and vegetarian and has posed for the ad with a rescued tabby nestling in his hair.

The campaign is aimed at reducing the numbers of unwanted animals and the ad features the line: "Homeless Animals on Your Mind? Spay or Neuter Today."

Morrissey - whose solo albums include Southpaw Grammar - said: "Letting cats or dogs have litters is tantamount to shooting shelter animals in the head since it kills their chances of adoption. Please do the right thing and spay or neuter your animals."

Morrissey - who was named Peta's person of the year in 2011 - plays a show in Manchester on July 28, his first in his home city for three years.
