Elba 'proud' of directing video

Idris Elba has made his debut as a director - on a Mumford And Sons' music video.

The star of Luther and The Wire has headed behind the cameras for the first time with scriptwriter Dan Cadan, to take control of the video for the folk group's upcoming single Lover Of The Light, which he also stars in.

"I wrote & directed this video for @MumfordAndSons. Very proud amazing song," the actor tweeted.

The band said in a statement: "We are, quite obviously, huge fans of Idris Elba's acting work, as pretty much anyone can agree he's the most bada** British actor since Richard Briers. So we trusted him as the director for our latest video."

The quartet, fronted by Marcus Mumford with Country Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane, revealed talks for the video took place over ales.

"Talking to Idris and Dan about making a video that we're not in made it a lot more fun to think about. They went off and wrote the treatment after our ale-infused conversation in a pub in London, and what they directed, we are proud to present as: Lover Of The Light," the group said.

"We've been fortunate to work with some great directors in the past, but we've always been uncomfortable with the process of making music videos. We've never really enjoyed being in them, unless they involve live performance," they added.

Lover Of The Light, taken from Mumford And Sons' second album, Babel, will be released on December 3.
