Richard: I'm up for duet with 1D

Sir Cliff Richard has revealed that he wouldn't mind making music with boy band One Direction - but joked that the collaboration wouldn't come cheap.

The Peter Pan of pop admitted that he only discovered the British group comprising of Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan recently, but would be up for a collaboration.

"I've heard One Direction now, and think that each one of them has a terrific voice, so if they ever decide to do a duet, I'm available but not 'cheap'," he told The Lady.

The 72-year-old, who found fame when he was 18, said it was "fascinating" seeing how huge the X Factor quintet have become.

"It was fascinating watching the 'fast' rise to fame of One Direction," he continued.

"For quite a while I didn't hear their music. Of course I may have heard something on the radio, but all too often nobody tells you what you have just listened to! There's been many a time when I would have bought a record, but didn't know who or what to ask for."

Cliff, who heads out on his Midsummer Nights series of shows in June, also revealed why he chose a clean-living lifestyle.

"I certainly didn't want anything to cut my life short. I was having a fantastic time performing. I'd have been devastated if anything had stopped me living my dream," he added.
