One Direction head up to top spot

One Direction crashed in at the top of the singles charts with their cover of Blondie's One Way Or Another.

The X Factor created popsters knocked last week's number one, I Could Be The One, by Avicii vs Nicky Romero into fifth spot.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's Thrift Shop was unmoved at number two in this week's charts while Baauer's Harlem Shake, the song behind the latest internet dance craze, remained at Number Three.

The song has clocked up millions of listens on YouTube through thousands of "meme" parody videos.

The biggest climber, after his appearance at The Brit Awards, was Ben Howard with the stirring Only Love.

Last week the single was in 190th spot but now finds itself at number nine after he wowed the audience with it last week.

The Devon-based singer-songwriter, who landed gongs for British Breakthrough Act and British Male Solo Artist, also saw his 2011 album Every Kingdom rocket to number four from 46th position, according to the Official Charts Company.

Another high climber benefiting from The Brits effect was Justin Timberlake who saw his single Mirrors dazzle, jumping from 28th to number four after he performed the hit at the awards ceremony.

Emeli Sande found herself return to the top of the album charts after also taking the Brit Awards by storm. Sande, who won Best British Female and Best Album, could hear the clatter of the tills ringing as Our Version Of Events rose from third to number one.

Second place belonged to folksters Mumford and Sons' Babel ahead of new entry Push The Sky Away from Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.
