80,000 soak up sun at T in the Park

Music fans at this year's T in the Park soaked up the sun today as acts including Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran got the party started.

Manic Street Preachers, Imagine Dragons and Haim also took to the stage as crowds of up to 80,000 descended on Balado, near Kinross.

It is the last time the site will host the event after being its home for 18 years.

Thousands of people danced in the sunshine while Charli XCX, Neon Jungle and DJ Fresh also performed as temperatures soared throughout the day.

Biffy Clyro will bring the first day of the three-day festival to a close.

Crowds can look forward to a line-up including Calvin Harris, Elbow, Pharrell Williams and Paolo Nutini tomorrow.

This year marks the end of an era for T in the Park at the Balado airfield before a move to the Strathallan Castle estate in Perthshire in 2015.

Performers over the weekend include the headliners of T in the Park's first year at Balado - The Charlatans and Paul Weller - with both acts taking to the stage 18 years to the day after they performed at the festival's debut in Kinross-shire.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "We are delighted that so many of our devoted T in the Park fans have turned out in force to celebrate our last year at Balado and that they will be helping us to see it out in style.

"Friday has been a phenomenal day so far, and we are just really looking forward to what we know will be a brilliant weekend and the party to end all parties.'

Police Scotland said crime levels at the festival were low, with nine arrests for mainly minor offences since the campsite opened on Thursday.

The medical team said 137 people had visited the hospital tent by Friday afternoon, mostly for sunburn or cuts and grazes.
