Paloma Faith sorry for offending fans over Gibraltar comment

Paloma Faith has had to apologise to fans after greeting the crowd at a music festival in Gibraltar with “Hola Espana”.

The Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer, whose father is Spanish and who was headlining the weekend event in the British territory, added to her mistake by saying it was “great to be in a place that’s half English and half Spanish”, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite being located on the Iberian Peninsula, Gibraltar has been British for more than 300 years, and it has been the subject of much contention between Britain and Spain, with its people last rejecting Spanish sovereignty in a referendum in 2002.

So it was not surprising that her Spanish greeting didn’t go down well at the festival.

Paloma later tweeted to say sorry if she had offended anyone.
