Avicii's third album will be released over a year after his death

The family of Avicii have announced that his third album will be released posthumously.

The Swedish DJ, whose real name was Tim Bergling, passed away a year ago. He was working on songs before his death in Oman last April.

His family have now revealed that they turned to previous collaborators to help finish the new album, which will be called TIM.

The LP will be released on June 6, with its first single 'SOS' coming out on April 10. Money from its sales will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, which was set up by his family to help in the area of mental illness and suicide prevention.

"When Tim Bergling passed away on 20 April 2018, he was close to completing a new album," they said in a statement. "He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music.

"The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible.

"Since Tim's passing, the family decided not to keep the music locked away – instead they wanted to share it with his fans all around the world."

Alongside the announcement, a video has been released showing Avicii in the studio alongside interviews from collaborators and family.
