NewsFebruary, 18 Beyoncé reveals 'emotional transformation' behind iconic haircutBeyoncé has revealed she experienced an “emotional transformation” after dramatically cutting her hair in 2013. The 16 Carriages singer discussed her decision to chop her signature long locks into a pixie cut in a new cover interview with Essence magazine. Beyoncé revealed she was going through some big changes in her life at the time and felt compelled to drastically change her appearance. “I remember the day I decided to just cut all my hair off,” she shared. “It wasn’t an aesthetic choice, but it was a very big emotional transformation and metamorphosis that I was going through.” Beyoncé had recently become a mother for the first time, to her daughter Blue Ivy, now 12. The star was eager to transform her hair as she entered a new chapter in her personal life. “Cutting my hair off was me rebelling against being this woman that society thinks I’m supposed to be,” she recalled. “I was a new mother, and something about the liberation of becoming a mother made me want to just shed all of that. It was a physical representation of me shedding the expectations put upon me. I just wanted it off.” Beyoncé, 42, admitted her hairstylist had doubts about the severe crop, so the singer decided to take the matter into her own hands. The star also revealed that the haircut inspired her to continue taking risks in both her personal and professional life. “I just got the scissors and chopped it off. It was very intentional,” she explained. “And it was what I needed to do. And after that, I became super brave. It was the first step to many more audacious decisions I made in my life and my career that have led to who I am now.” Earlier this week Beyoncé debuted her latest hairstyle, a platinum wavy bob, as she dropped two new singles from her upcoming country-inspired album.
