Charlie Puth credits Taylor Swift ahead of new song release

Charlie Puth has credited Taylor Swift for pushing him to release his new song Hero.

The singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Tuesday to thank the pop star for giving him a shout-out on her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, which was released in April.

In the post, Charlie revealed that the shout-out, in which Taylor sings "We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist," inspired his decision to release his new song, titled Hero.

"I've never put out a song like this before," the 32-year-old wrote in the post. "It's very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn't keep this on my hard drive any longer."

Charlie also revealed the meaning behind his forthcoming single, which will be released on Friday.

"My new song HERO is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can't save them," he shared. "It's one of the hardest songs I've ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that you've gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill in the BLANK for you like it did for me."

The We Don't Talk Anymore hitmaker added, "I'm very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it's a great representation of what's to come."

Charlie hasn't released an album since his third studio album titled, Charlie, in 2022.
