Sabrina Carpenter wrote Espresso in a French creperie

Sabrina Carpenter has revealed that she wrote her hit song Espresso in a French creperie.

The 25-year-old pop star has revealed she wrote her hit song Espresso, which has been named the U.K.'s song of the summer by the Official Charts, in a "ghost town" in France.

In a new interview with W Magazine, Sabrina explained that she wrote the track during a 10-day break from opening for Taylor Swift's sold-out Eras Tour.

"I was in a ghost town that had one little creperie down the road," Sabrina said. "I had my shot of espresso, and then I might have had some champagne, and before I knew it the song was written."

The Please Please Please hitmaker continued, "I definitely hear it now in every car I get into, and being on the radio, to me, is still - it's like fate. You have to be at the right place at the right time."

Elsewhere in the interview, Sabrina revealed details about the making of the Espresso music video.

"I did that video because I thought the clock was ticking on how much longer I had to do my beach music video," she told the publication. "To me, Espresso sounded like when you turn on a vintage radio at the beach. And I did want to make it a little bit ridiculous, because that's up my alley."

Sabrina is gearing up for her upcoming Short n' Sweet tour in support of her new album of the same name. The trek kicks off in Columbus, Ohio on 23 September and concludes in Milan, Italy on 26 March.
